Veneers are cosmetic restorations primarily used to enhance the appearance of teeth. Unlike a dental crown or bridge, veneers preserve most of the natural tooth structure, making them a less intrusive solution to achieve a much-improved smile.
Our custom veneers are particularly effective in closing gaps between teeth (diastemas), with treatment typically involving two to six veneers per arch, depending on the extent of the diastema. Additionally, they address a variety of cosmetic concerns, including discoloured teeth following a root canal or tooth decay, chips, and uneven teeth.
While veneers are considered a cosmetic procedure and commonly applied to the anterior teeth (the six upper front teeth), they can also be extended to the second bicuspid or cover other visible areas of the smile, depending on the patient’s needs.

To achieve this, we exclusively use the lost wax technique when fabricating dental veneers. This method allows our skilled technicians to sculpt the veneers from wax and press them into their final shape, creating an intimate fit that is crucial for achieving the ‘laminate effect,’ where the veneer conforms seamlessly to the entire tooth surface and integrates with the natural tooth enamel.
While CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing) veneer technologies continue to evolve, we find that the lost wax technique currently provides a superior fit and strength, leading to greater patient satisfaction.
In some cases, such as when addressing diastemas, our team carefully evaluates the level of tooth preparation needed to achieve the best aesthetic result. If additional preparation is necessary, we provide detailed feedback, including guidance on preparing slightly below the tissue line to ensure the veneers have a natural emergence profile.

Veneer Materials
At Watersedge, we prioritize materials that ensure the highest standards of aesthetics, durability, and fit. Our primary choice for dental veneers is lithium disilicate ceramic— specifically E.max—chosen for its superior strength, natural translucency, and durability. After carefully crafting each veneer, the final step involves leveraging E.max’s etchable properties. We apply a mild acid solution to enhance the bonding process, followed by silane, which seals the surface and prepares the veneer for placement. While lithium disilicate is preferred for veneers, Watersedge is well-versed in all materials commonly used for dental restorations.
A high-strength, naturally translucent ceramic that mimics the appearance of natural teeth while providing long-lasting resistance to wear and fractures. Ideal for veneers, crowns, and bridges.
A porcelain veneer is made from glass that is not reinforced with lithium. Traditional porcelain veneers have now largely been replaced by lithium disilicate due to their fragility and risk of breaking.
Primarily used for crowns, zirconia lacks the necessary bonding strength veneers require. Its inability to be etched results in an inferior bond, and its fit, achieved through milling, is not as precise as the pressed fit of lithium disilicate.
A plastic-based material often utilized chairside. While convenient and affordable, composite resin veneers are prone to staining and damage, making them suitable for temporary veneers and restorations only.

How to Request Dental Veneers from Watersedge Dental Laboratory
- Patient Records: Please submit any study impressions or digital scans along with the bite registration.
- Prescription: Include detailed notes as well as the doctor’s and patient’s names on the prescription.
- Stump Shade: Additionally, please provide the colour of the remaining tooth structure; this helps us create veneers that counteract any dark underlying tooth colour.
- Case Registration: A member of our quality assurance team will register the case once it is received and contact your clinic with a reference number.
- Feedback and Adjustments: After reviewing each case, our team will reach out with any recommendations. (For example, some cases, such as closing diastemas, may require additional preparation, while others may be better suited for alternative treatments.)
- Fabrication: Once the case is approved, our technicians will fabricate the veneers.
- Custom Shade Appointment: Patients may choose to visit Watersedge for a 10 to 30 minute appointment to ensure their aesthetic goals are met.
- Receive Veneers: The finished veneers are carefully packed, labelled and delivered to you.

Yes, a veneer can be reconditioned and reattached. If a veneer pops off, it must be sent back to the lab to have the bonding agent removed and the veneer re-etched and sealed before being reattached. It is also important to assess the reason for the veneer detaching, such as functional interference or changes in the patient’s bite.
Patients should brush and floss their veneers as they would natural teeth. We recommend using a non-abrasive toothpaste, a soft toothbrush and a waterpik. While veneers are durable, patients should avoid abrasive whitening toothpastes, as these can damage the surface. Additionally, patients should inform their hygienist about their veneers, as cleaning techniques may differ from those used on natural teeth.
Lumineers are a proprietary brand of ultra-thin veneers marketed as “no prep veneers.” They are currently unavailable at Watersedge, so we recommend taking study impressions and sending them to our lab for assessment to determine the most conservative approach to achieving the desired results.
